Cameron Smith
News, weather, travel, music, competitions - just the best way to wake up!
Here’s a man on a mission, as Cameron’s interests in the entertainment world started at a very early age. At just 11 (bless him), he had his own magic show, travelling to numerous children’s parties and functions. On leaving college, he joined the family business on the Isle of Wight and found himself with a captive audience - a Wax Museum! However, the wax held little magic of its own for him and his interest in live performance and music took over, leading him in 1985 to reach the top ten in the regional final of the National Competition “Disc Jockey of the Year” coming third in the South of England final.
This quickly led to presentation work on BBC Radio Solent. A year later, in 1986 he joined the P and O Cruise Liner “Canberra” touring the Med and Caribbean as ship’s DJ and Radio Presenter. Having picked up a tan and travelled the world, he returned to the UK and joined the team at Newcastle’s Metro Radio broadcasting to the North East of England. After five successful years presenting across the network of Metro and Radio Tees, he returned to the Isle of Wight and joined The Local Radio Company broadcasting to his native “Island“. The opportunity to move to Dorset came in 1998 and Cameron jumped at the chance to “Wake up the Vale” on the Breakfast Show. Nine years later, he’s still entertaining Balndford and the Vale on The Big Drive Home
What has been your funniest moment at Vale FM?
Receiving hundreds of calls one Winter's morning about a protesting streaker, wearing nothing but a smile, eastbound on the A30 to Salisbury. The police even called me up during his arrest! Most embarrassing moment?
Presenting a live breakfast show dressed as Andy Pandy in bed with Looby Loo, in the display window of Focus DIY, Gillingham! If there any photos out there, I’d like to see them - before the press do!
